One
of the world’s most renowned and respected
car manufacturers, Bayerische Motoren Werke
AG (BMW) is a German-based company that crafts
luxury cars and SUV’s. Founded in Munich
in the early 1900’s, the company began
as an aircraft manufacturer, which is why the
current BMW logo, seen on every BMW car rental,
reflects white propeller blades against a blue
sky.
At the end of World War I, production on
aircrafts ceased and the company began crafting
automobiles. The first BMW car, the Dixi,
was incredibly popular and helped the company
make it through the Great Depression era without
going bankrupt. After World War II, the company
became popular for the Type 328 Roadster,
a two-seater with a lot of style and speed.
This distinct power and class serves as the
base for each exotic car rental BMW produces.
Known for developing new technology, the
company has spearheaded several advances in
the automobile industry. In the early 1950’s
BMW introduced the first light-alloy V8 engine
in the BMW 502. The company continued to make
waves that decade with the 507 sports car,
which featured an alloy body and the powerful
V8 engine, making it one of the fastest, non-racing
cars in the world at that time.
In the 1970’s BMW established a market
in the United States in wealthy, high-class
consumers who valued a luxury car rental.
It was in this decade that the BMW three-tier
sport sedan range (the 3 Series, 5 Series
and 7 Series) was born and when the M division,
a performance line, was created.
Unlike
other luxury car makers, BMW is known for
creating extravagant vehicles, not just one
type of automobile. From small sports cars
and speedy coupes to spacious sedans, wagons
and SUV’s, the company produces a number
of different models each year and is constantly
upping the ante with new technology and impressive
design.
