Based on the
same platform used for the BMW 5 Series sedan,
the BMW 650 Coupe is a four-passenger luxury
grand touring car with what car enthusiasts
can only describe as a great personality.
And while a great personality may not be such
a compliment to a woman, it’s certainly
not a bad term when applied to a luxury car
rental.
Built around
a 4.8-liter V8 engine, the 650 Coupe is rear-wheel
drive and produces 360 horsepower and 360
pound-feet of torque. The standard transmission
is a six-speed manual but BMW’s new
six-speed automatic is available. Controlled
by steering wheel mounted paddle shifters,
the transmission features downshift rev-matching
for a smooth, controlled ride.
Well equipped
with several standard and optional features,
the 650 Coupe features front and rear suspensions
that are calibrated to produce a lower ride
height and faster speed. Aluminum is used
on the body while thermoplastic front fenders
and a composite deck lid don’t add too
much extra weight.
18-inch wheels,
adaptive xenon headlights, seat-mounted airbags,
front knee airbags, antilock disc brakes,
stability control and a subscription to BMW’s
Assist emergency telematics all come standard
on the exotic car rental. There are also two
optional packages to choose from that bring
several upgrades to the ride. The Sport package
adds 19-inch alloy wheels, enhanced exterior
trim and sport seats while the Cold Weather
package incorporates heated seats and steering
wheel.
The BMW car
rental can also be upgraded to include active
steering, adaptive cruise control and keyless
ignition. Extravagant interior features, such
as leather upholstery, 12-way power front
seats with driver memory and dual-zone automatic
climate control ensure the most comfort possible
while Bluetooth, an eight-speaker surround
sound audio system and iPod integration keep
drivers entertained and connected to the outside
world, should they every feel the need to
leave the comforts of their cockpit.
