An upgrade from more “girly” previous
models, the 2009 Mercedes Benz SL Class features
a more aggressive design and powerful engine.
The perfect luxury car rental for those who
appreciate style and capability, the two-seat
roadster comes with a retractable hardtop
and is available in four distinct models:
550, 600, 63 AMG and 65 AMG.
One
of the greatest improvements to the Mercedes
Benz car rental is the new Direct-Steer system
that continually varies the steering ration
depending on the front wheel angle, speed
and load forces on the suspension components.
A revised Active Body Control with computer-controlled
shock absorbers constantly controls body movement
depending on the car’s speed and steering
angle so that the vehicle corners better and
has a smoother ride.
The
standard SL550 is powered by a 5.5-liter V8
engine that produces 382 horsepower through
a seven-speed automatic transmission system.
The SL600 has a bit more power in a twin-turbo
V12 and generates 510 horsepower and 612 pound-feet
of torque through a five-speed automatic transmission.
However, the most power lies in the two AMG-based
models. Riding on a 6.2-liter V8 engine, the
SL63 AMG produces 518 horsepower while the
SL65 AMG features a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter
V12 engine that generates 604 horsepower.
Both feature the Speedshift MCT, a new seven
speed automatic manual gearbox transmission.
And
while the engine may have been revamped a
bit, it’s the added extra features that
make the 2009 SL class the perfect exotic
car rental. Standard amenities include an
active suspension system, bi-xenon headlights,
a wind deflector, heated wipers and washer
nozzles, rain-sensing wipers, auto-locking
interior storage bins, a power tilt/telescoping
steering wheel, 12-way heated power front
seats with memory and soft leather upholstery.
Throw in Bluetooth, a navigation system, a
surround-sound stereo system and iPod integration
and you can practically live in the car. A
dual-zone automatic climate control with sensors
that detect sun position, roof and window
position, humidity and dew point and the number
of people in the care is just the icing on
the cake.
