The
premier producer of luxury SUV’s, Land
Rover is known for producing luxury car rentals
that combine both style and comfort with power
and the ultimate off road capabilities. Like
most sport utility vehicles, Land Rovers are
rough, rugged and ready to take to the trails.
What sets the company apart, however, are the
additional extravagant features, amenities and
details that are seen both in and outside of
their SUV’s.
After witnessing the versatility of the Jeep
in World War II, which was used as a military
vehicle in the United States Army, British
brothers Spencer and Maurice Wilks teamed
up with the automaker Rover with the intentions
of creating something similar. The very first
Land Rover, the Series I, was released in
1948 and came with permanent four-wheel drive,
optional doors and a canvas rude. The exotic
car rental was a bit rough around the edges,
but the brothers had succeeded in creating
a rugged vehicle for civilians that was capable
of the challenges of driving off road.
As the years went by, the Land Rover models
became more refined, more powerful and more
luxurious. The Series II, launched ten years
after the Series I, featured additional horsepower
and changes to the rough body style. During
the 1960’s the company produced it’s
first diesel-powered Rover, which proved to
be popular amongst consumers.
It
wasn’t until 1970 that the company released
the most famous Land Rover car rental -
the Range Rover. Powered by a V8 engine, the
stylish vehicle had a body made entirely of
aluminum. Throughout the 1990’s the
automaker released several models of the Range
Rover as well as the Discovery and the Freelander.
Though the company has been bought and sold
a few times, the popularity of the SUV has
made Land Rover a household name, particularly
amongst the rich and famous.
