Originally founded as the Swallow Sidecar
Company (also known as SS Cars) in 1922, Jaguar
first produced a line of aluminum motor sidecars
before switching over to automobiles in 1933.
The first official Jaguar car, the SS Jaguar
100, was released in 1935. To avoid being
associated with Nazi organizations, the company
changed its name to Jaguar after World War
II.
In 1948 Jaguar produced the fastest production
automobile of the time, the XK120. An impressive
luxury car rental, the sports car was incredibly
popular, which encouraged the company to continue
making similar cars with powerful engines.
In the early 1950’s the company moved
across the Atlantic and introduced its first
vehicle, the Mark VII Saloon, to the United
States, where it was widely praised and sales
soared.
And, while the early years proved to be profitable
for Jaguar, the most well known company models
were created in the 1960’s. Combining
raw performance with refined style, the XK-E
was driven by famous faces like the Beatles,
the Rolling Stones and Twiggy, a top fashion
model. The ultimate exotic car rental of the
time, the XK-E became the base for several
other models in the future.
